Events
The Museum holds regular events. Our annual Roman re-enactments take place every year on the second weekend of July on Ribchester Playing Field. Each year it involves Legio Secunda Augusta who are based in Portsmouth. They put on exciting and realistic demonstrations about everyday and military life. There are military displays, the firing of artillery, Roman Cavalry and gladiatorial combat to see and opportunities for children to dress up in Roman armour. Our famous Roman snacks will be available from the barbecue. With quizzes, face painting, souvenirs, fighting and lots and lots of real live Romans, this is a special event not to be missed.
Iron Age Day is hosted at the Museum by a small local re-enactment group called Timeline. It takes place annually on a Sunday in September. This event is very much a hands on experience for anybody interested in Celtic life in Britain, before the arrival of the Romans.
Children will enjoy the Celtic Warrior face painting, grinding corn using an authentic Iron Age quern stone and learning how to cook, weave and dye cloth and cure common ailments.
